Mindless Morning Youtubery

How Bout Dem Nazis?

Click below to enjoy one of the best youtubes of this young year. By the way, congrats to Eli and his New York Giants (why does everybody always say "The New York Football Giants" anyway? Is there any other kind of New York Giant? Nobody ever says "The Arizona Football Cardinals"?!?).

Warning: lots of German cussing and NSFW subtitles, even so, it's worth it...

  1. The reason they say "The New York Football Giants" is because once upon a time (like during our grandfather's heyday) the San Francisco Giants were in New York and were called - yep - The New York Giants. So I guess people back in the day said "New York Football Giants" and "New York Baseball Giants" to distinguish the two, and knowing how Chris Berman loves nicknames (i.e. San Diego SUPER Chargers) that one got popular again

  2. Shows how much I care about MLB history. Damn, how many other teams did New York have? Yanks, Mets, Giants and Dodgers?

I still think it's retarded. Baseball Giants haven't played in NY since '57. Nobody is thinking, "Wait he's not talking about the '56 baseball Giants, is he? %$*& Me!"

  4. Well, the Football Cardinals were in St. Louis for several years, along with the Baseball Cardinals, but I don't think anyone in St. Louis ever had to be told the difference. And that was during my lifetime. Maybe the NY people weren't that bright.

  5. maybe b/c the st. louis football cardinals were never all that relevant...hence why they're in arizona.

  6. And why did the baseball Giants move? Not that I'm here to defend the St. Louis Football Cardinals, but they occasionally gave the Cowboys some fits back in 1970's (back when I did like the Cowboys somewhat). They had a few notables, like Terry Metcalf, Mel Gray, Jim Hart, Jim Otis, and of course, Conrad Dobler (Dan Dierdorf intentionally left off). Of course, the football Cardinals were in Chicago prior to arriving in St. Louis, and I think that I read that the baseball Cards were initially going to formally object to sharing the mascot, but decided to drop the issue and live in peace. Maybe they knew their gridiron colleagues wouldn't last.

  9. Funniest youtube I've seen this week. Thanks for the link.

Guys, let me show my age here. Before Berman there was Howard Cosell who was part of the 1st Monday Night football broadcast team in 1970 . He had a whiny, nasaly voice and an arrogant attitude of righteous knowledge that just tended to piss you off. He is the first person I know that every time he said New York Giants, inserted "football" as an adjective. You hated Cosell, but somehow when he was teamed with the anti-Cosell, Don Meredith, it worked, and MNF was a must-see. So Berman is just mimicing Cosell.
