State Attempts to Bust Balls

And it looks as if they've succeeded

The above billboard is naturally a reference to Derek Pegues' Mississippi State punt return for a touchdown that completed a 14 point, fourth quarter Egg Bowl comeback against the worst team in the SEC. Ok, the billboard is funny. It's smartass as hell, and I can appreciate that. I also appreciate that they've slapped one of these things up on I-55 as close to Ole Miss as possible (Batesville). Credit. I wish more schools would talk shit in this fashion.

If you're confused as to the play they're referencing, I've got a youtubes for you. The Rebs should be embarrassed, but damn. This highlight video attempts to make me weep about the Bulldogs comeback victory over The New England Patriots The 3-8 (0-7) Ole Miss Orgerons. This is your watershed moment?

I didn't see any special-ed kids winning the hurdles...nor did I see a long lost kitten reunited with a wounded solider. WTF? (Maybe Ole Miss can make one of these end-of-"Rudy" type videos if/when they beat Vandy at home this season!)

Ole Miss fans might even well up a few tears of joy watching the above clip, as it marked the end of the illustrious Shrimp Boat Capitan Orgeron era.

What would be the predictable Rebel counterstrike? Ole Miss' fans question this "character" of which Crooms speaks. (See: 1 , 2 , 3 or 4 or 5)...

  2. Oh It counts. Just like it counts when you beat up an old man.

Beating Tulane counts in the win column...but I'm not gonna make dramatic, superbowlesque highlight tape about it.

  3. I'm a Georgia Bulldog, so I don't really have a "dog" in the Egg Bowl fight, but I watch it every year and love it, even when both teams suck (which is why I'm able to say that I watch it).

While it's probably a bit of a kick in the nuts to Ole Miss fans, this is one of the funniest things I've seen lately. It's really only second to the Louisiana Monroe billboard that 'Bama fans had to drive by on the way to Shreveport.

OR, better yet, the "Welcome Home, Jabari" billboard that Georgia fans put up near the Georgia Dome to welcome back Atlanta native and Tennessee tailback Jabari Davis when the Vols played in the Peach Bowl. Jabari told reporters when he commited to UT that he chose the Vols because they were talking about national titles while UGA's players told him how much fun they had at the Peach Bowl. He got to experience the Peaches... twice! Man, nothing like teabagging a dude with a billboard.

  4. You people (State Fans) act like you beat someone in last year's Eggg Bowl. It wasn't so much that you won, it was that our idiot coach lost. Tell ya what, make you a deal--if you beat us this year, I'll listen to all the trash talk for approx. 365 days. Remember this--Houston Nutt lost to State ONCE by ONE point in his first season. State is in trouble, your coach is extremely overrated, the Earth will be back on it's axis and Ole Miss will once again start taking that Golden Egg back 9 out of 10 times we play. That is the truth and I think you people (State Fans) really deep down know that.

  5. as an Arkansas fan, it will be interesting to see how Nutt case does with even less talent and even smaller budget. the reality check for Ole Miss fans is that the 1960s are never coming back. you will never again beat mississippi state 90% of the time. by anyone's standards, Sylvester Croom has twice the credentials and is twice the man Houston Nutt is.

NO WONDER THIS GUY CHOSE TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS!! Croom has twice the credentials as Nutt? Absolute b u l l s h i t! I don't believe Ole Miss ever beat MSU 90% of the time, this guy is a complete moron. Not sure what his problem is, but Coach Nutt will do a good job, I've been through some new-hires as a Rebel, but never been as excited as this one. I truly believe Coach Nutt will be great for The University. mickabd@hotmail.com I stand behind my statements!

  7. Face it, Nutt and Ole Miss we're the only one's either had a chance at landing. No other coach would go there and no other team would want him. Arkansas beat State 9 out of 10 years he was there. Nutt didn't win those games, more like Arkansas won inspite of him. The LSU miracle simply sealed the deal for you Rebs. When he had the best running back tandem in SEC history and cant even win a championship..need I say more?

  8. As opposed to State's many championships, Jim?
